Millions of women are bothered by small clusters of superficial red, blue or purple veins that appear on the thighs, calves and ankles. Today, many plastic surgeons are treating superficial spider veins with sclerotherapy.
In this in-office procedure, veins are injected with a sclerosing solution, which causes them to collapse and eventually fade from view. After the veins are treated it can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks for the veins to dissolve, so one must plan ahead. After the treatment sun exposure to the area is not recommended.
The number of treatments needed depend on the number of veins and their location.
